On September 23, Microsoft published an update on Dynamics 365 ERP capabilities across Finance, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Human Resources, and Project Operations. The update is a snapshot of capabilities available now or planned through March 2027; it includes generally available features, public previews, and items still on the roadmap.
Two announcements concern agents working with ERP data and processes: the Dynamics 365 ERP Model Context Protocol (MCP) server and the ERP plugin for Copilot Cowork are described as generally available. Separately, Procurement Agent impact analysis in Supply Chain Management is in public preview. These release labels describe different capabilities and do not remove their individual environment, version, licensing, and configuration requirements. Microsoft’s ERP update
Can Procurement Agent impact analysis be tested in a trial?
Microsoft’s test guide documents testing in a sandbox or production environment. In a sandbox, teams can forward supplier emails to a test address, enter sample vendor messages without configuring a complete email pipeline, or simulate a change to a purchase order’s date or quantity. The feature is labeled a production-ready preview, and the documentation is marked as prerelease and subject to change. Impact analysis testing guide · Feature overview
Microsoft also documents two trial experiences for finance and operations apps. The 30-day email-signup trial includes demo data and guided scenarios, but that trial version cannot be customized. A separately provisioned, subscription-based unified trial can be created through the Power Platform admin center and combines Dataverse with finance and operations app capabilities. Microsoft notes that this unified trial does not support Visual Studio development. Before you buy · Unified admin trials
The published impact-analysis test paths name sandbox and production, not a standard trial environment. The documentation therefore does not confirm that the feature can be deployed in either trial experience. A sandbox is the documented non-production route for testing the preview.
Requirements for the documented sandbox test
The current setup guide requires Supply Chain Management version 10.0.48, build 10.39.2117 or later; enabled features for Immersive Home, Agent management, and Procurement Agent impact analysis; and specified minimum versions of the Copilot for finance and operations apps and the Supply Chain Management Copilot app. Setup also involves Copilot Studio billing, a dedicated agent identity, appropriate licenses and security roles, and connections permitted by the tenant’s data loss prevention policies. Setup prerequisites
Test data affects the result. Impact analysis needs current planning data and purchase orders linked to downstream demand, such as sales, production, or transfer orders. Microsoft warns that stale sandbox planning data can produce no downstream matches; refreshing data or creating linked test demand and rerunning planning are documented ways to prepare a test.
ERP MCP server: generally available, with environment prerequisites
The ERP MCP server provides compatible agents with access to finance and operations data and business logic through data, form, and action tools. Microsoft’s prerequisites specify finance and operations app version 10.0.47 or later (or the listed earlier-version quality updates), that the agent platform be added to Allowed MCP Clients, and an environment that is Tier 2 or higher or a Unified Developer Environment. The documentation says the MCP server is not supported on Cloud Hosted Environments.
The MCP prerequisites do not explicitly list a standard trial as a supported environment type. Microsoft describes subscription-based trials separately from Tier 2 and Unified Developer Environment prerequisites; as a result, trial compatibility should be verified against the target environment and the current setup wizard rather than assumed from the server’s generally available status.
